Gardaí seize $900,000 in crypto and drugs in Galway organised crime raids

A man in his 40s has been arrested after gardaí raided two Galway properties, freezing nearly $900,000 in cryptocurrency and seizing drugs and cash.

Gardaí have frozen cryptocurrency accounts worth $900,000 (€772,000) following raids on two properties in Galway city targeting an organised crime operation, the Irish Times reports.

Officers from a Galway drug unit, supported by uniformed colleagues, searched the two addresses on Wednesday. They recovered €9,000 worth of amphetamines and cannabis with a street value of €9,300, both wrapped in tape and film. Several wads of cash totalling €9,300 were also found on the premises.

In connection with the seizures, two cryptocurrency wallets were frozen pending further investigation, along with a traditional bank account holding €25,000. Forensic Science Ireland is to analyse the seized substances to confirm their contents.

A man in his 40s was arrested and held at a nearby Garda station. He is due to appear before Galway District Court on Thursday morning to face drug charges.

The Garda said in a statement that investigations remain "ongoing".
