GoFundMe raises €5,500 for Brazilian woman stabbed to death in Limerick

A fundraiser to cover funeral and repatriation costs for a Brazilian woman killed in Limerick city has raised nearly €5,500, TheJournal.ie reports.

Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa, originally from Sorocaba, São Paulo, was found dead inside her apartment at Carlton House on Cecil Street on Friday. Gardaí launched a murder investigation the following day and are understood to be seeking to question a male in connection with the killing.

A post-mortem carried out by the State Pathologist confirmed Rosa died a violent death. Gardaí have not released the full results for what they describe as "operational reasons", though it is understood she was stabbed.

The GoFundMe campaign, set up in the days following her death, is intended to cover the cost of her funeral, wake, and burial in Brazil, as well as the transfer of her remains from the airport in Brazil to her hometown. Rosa's employer is said to be meeting the cost of transporting her body from Ireland to Brazil.

The fundraiser's description reads: "Today we come together for a reason no one should ever have to face. Our dear Jady, a Brazilian who was living in Limerick, Ireland, had her life tragically taken."

"In this moment of immense grief, we want to help her family give her the dignified farewell she deserves in her home country, surrounded by the people who love her," the post continues. "Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a difference and will be a meaningful gesture of kindness and solidarity with her family during this incredibly difficult time."

Gardaí confirmed on Saturday that a family liaison officer has been assigned to support Rosa's relatives, and that a senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the investigation.
