A man known to the victim has been identified as a person of interest. He was seen by witnesses near her home on Friday morning and has not been located since. Gardaí said they are "following a line of enquiry" and are seeking to question the man in connection with the killing.

The alarm was raised by friends of Ms Pereira Rosa, who had arranged to meet her before work that morning. The group typically walked to work together; when she did not appear, they alerted gardaí at Henry Street station, situated close to Cecil Street.

Ms Pereira Rosa was originally from Sorocaba, a city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. She had been living in Limerick for a number of years, working for a cleaning company based in Co Limerick.

Her brother told the Irish Examiner the family was struggling to come to terms with her death. "We are still in shock about what is happening. I never imagined that I would have to go through such an ordeal," he said. He described his sister as living the "Brazilian dream" of residing in Europe, and said she "always helped everyone who was here in Brazil as much as she could."

More than €20,000 has been raised through an online fundraiser to repatriate her remains to Brazil. A note on the fundraiser page states that her life was "tragically cut short" and that supporters want to give Ms Pereira Rosa a "dignified farewell in her home country."

A garda spokesperson confirmed on Saturday that a Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to support the deceased's family. A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation, and an incident room has been established at Henry Street Garda Station.
