Six males were arrested on Saturday in connection with a violent disorder at St Michael's Square in Ballinasloe, Co Galway, irishmirror.ie reports.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed that officers on proactive patrol detained the six following the incident, which took place on 10th October 2026 — the closing day of the Ballinasloe International October Fair and Festival.

Five of those arrested — four men in their 20s and one in his 30s — have been charged to appear before a special sitting of Loughrea District Court at 11:00am on Sunday, 11th October 2026. They remain in detention at a station in the Garda North Western Region ahead of that hearing.

The sixth individual, described as a juvenile, was released without charge pending further enquiries, according to the Garda statement.

An Garda Síochána said the arrests followed an incident of violent disorder at the square. No further details on the nature of the violence or any injuries were provided at this stage.
