Teenager killed in Co Clare hit-and-run, suspect vehicle found burnt out

Gardaí are investigating whether the death of a teenage boy in a hit-and-run incident in Co Clare on Friday night may have been deliberate, TheJournal.ie reports.

The boy, believed to be in his mid-teens, was found unresponsive beside the L3050 road at Cottage Cross on the Clare-Limerick border near Cloonlara shortly after 11pm. He had been riding what is believed to be an electric dirt bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second vehicle was involved in the collision but failed to remain at the scene. The Journal understands that vehicle was subsequently found partially burnt out on Saturday in Castleconnell, Co Limerick, approximately 15km from where the incident occurred.

The scene at Cottage Cross has been preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and local traffic diversions remain in place. The coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination is to be arranged.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Road users who were in the Cloonlara area at the time and may have relevant camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, are asked to make it available to investigators.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Henry Garda Station on (061) 212400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
