Three teenage boys appeared before Clonakilty District Court over an incident in which a stolen BMW X5 allegedly rammed a Garda patrol car in Co Cork.

Three teenage boys have appeared before a special sitting of Clonakilty District Court, charged in connection with an alleged ramming of a Garda patrol car by a stolen vehicle, Google News IE — Crime (en) reports.
Wayne Daly (19), with an address at Farm Lawn, Lehenaghbeg, Cork, along with two 14-year-old males who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced the court on Monday afternoon.
The charges stem from an incident on August 25th in which a BMW X5 was stolen from a residential property in Rochestown, Cork City, and driven to West Cork. Gardaí attempted to stop the vehicle at Ballinaboy, Ballinahassig, Co Cork, but the car rammed the patrol car. A stinger device was ultimately deployed to bring the vehicle to a halt.
All three were charged with allowing themselves to be carried in a stolen vehicle while knowing it to be stolen, an offence contrary to Section 112 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961.
Detective Garda Neil Ryan gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution in relation to Daly, telling the court that Daly made no reply to the charge.
Daly informed Judge Brendan O'Reilly that his solicitor had been unable to attend and that he intended to represent himself. Judge O'Reilly noted that the absence of legal representation placed Daly at a disadvantage.
Gardaí objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the charge. Daly proceeded with a bail application regardless, telling the judge: "I can promise that nothing is going to happen again." He said he had recently obtained a job and wanted to make a fresh start, having previously associated with the "wrong people."
Daly was remanded in custody with consent to bail under stringent conditions, including a curfew and a requirement to sign on daily at Togher Garda Station. He was also ordered to stay out of West Cork. Daly indicated he did not have the funds to meet his own bond of €100, nor anyone to provide an independent surety of €1,000. He is due before Clonakilty District Court again on Thursday.
The two 14-year-olds also appeared without legal representation, though their parents were present in court. Gardaí did not object to bail for the juveniles, and Judge O'Reilly granted bail to both under strict conditions. These include good behaviour, residing at their respective family homes, staying out of West Cork, signing on daily at their local Garda station, and providing Gardaí with a contactable phone number — kept charged and topped up with credit.
Judge O'Reilly additionally ordered that both boys attend school every day, for the full day. He warned them directly: "If you breach that aspect of the bail, you are heading straight to Oberstown."
Both juveniles are due to appear in court again on September 11th.
