Two teenagers charged after stolen car driven wrong way on M50 and rams Garda vehicle

Two male juveniles were arrested Thursday night after a stolen car was driven against traffic on the M50 and rammed a Garda vehicle near the M1 junction.

Two male teenagers have been arrested following a series of dangerous driving incidents on the M50 in Dublin on the evening of Thursday, 17 September 2026, connachttribune.ie reports.

Gardaí from Mountjoy and the Blanchardstown Traffic Unit launched a managed containment operation shortly before 8.00pm after the stolen vehicle was spotted driving against the flow of traffic on the M50 and causing multiple dangerous driving episodes in the Whitehall, Finglas, and Ballymun areas.

The car had originally been taken without authorisation in the Coolock, Dublin 17 area in the early hours of Wednesday, 16 September 2026.

During the containment operation, at the junction of the M1 and the R132, the stolen car rammed an official Garda vehicle. It was subsequently brought to a controlled stop. No injuries were reported at the time.

Both male juveniles, described as being in their late teens, were arrested at the scene and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the DMR North area.

One of the two has since been charged and was scheduled to appear before the Dublin Children's Court on Friday, 18 September 2026. The second individual was released pending referral to the Youth Diversion Programme.
