Drunk driver injures 12 pedestrians in Albufeira resort street
A 35-year-old Portuguese man mowed down 12 people, including two officers, on a bar street in Albufeira at 3am. One victim is in critical condition.

RTÉ News reports that a drunk driver injured 12 people in the Algarve resort town of Albufeira in the early hours of Monday morning, after refusing a police order to stop and accelerating along a street lined with bars and nightclubs.
The suspect, a 35-year-old Portuguese man, ignored officers at 3am before speeding into pedestrians in the area. Two police officers and ten others, aged between 18 and 22, were struck. One victim was left in a critical condition.
Portugal's interior ministry confirmed the casualty figures in a statement. Among those injured was a Polish national.
Police said the man had more than twice the legal alcohol limit in his blood at the time of the incident. He was detained and now faces potential charges of causing bodily harm and dangerous driving under the influence of alcohol.
