Six armed men kidnap driver in Alum Rock residential street ambush
Birminghammail.co.uk reports that six men armed with machetes ambushed a red Mercedes on a residential street in Alum Rock, Birmingham, dragging the driver from the vehicle and forcing him into the boot of a black Volkswagen Passat.
West Midlands Police said the attackers used two cars to box in the Mercedes before swarming the vehicle. Two passengers managed to flee but sustained slash wounds in the process. The driver was beaten before being bundled into the boot.
The footage of the attack is set to feature in the latest episode of Major Crime Unit, broadcast on Channel 5 at 9pm on Monday, 19 October.
In a statement, West Midlands Police described the incident as "a brutal case of kidnapping and ransom." The series, produced by Raw Cut Television in partnership with the force, follows the Major Crime Unit as it investigates offences including firearms, drugs and attempted murder.
Detective Inspector Francis Nock leads Major Crime Team 1, the unit tasked with reconstructing the attack after the injured men provided little information to investigators. The team was required to piece together events from physical evidence left at the scene.
Police said the Major Crime Unit, based at Perry Barr, draws on expertise from across the force — including homicide teams, forensics, the County Lines Taskforce and the Economic Crime Unit. The statement noted that the unit's work had recently contributed to Birmingham shedding its designation as the gun crime capital of England and Wales.
