Man arrested in London over murder of Rahiem Jackson in Leeds
A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of Rahiem Jackson, 38, who was killed in a group attack in Leeds on Saturday, bbc.co.uk reports.
Jackson was attacked outside a property in Hedley Chase, New Wortley, by a group of four people armed with weapons, according to West Yorkshire Police. He died shortly afterwards.
The suspect was detained overnight in London by the Metropolitan Police and remains in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Dan Bates described the arrest as "a significant development in the murder investigation of Rahiem Jackson", adding that officers are continuing to support the family and that extensive inquiries remain ongoing.
Police are appealing for information and are asking anyone who may have seen people arrive at or leave the scene on Hedley Chase on Saturday night to come forward.
Jackson's family paid tribute to the 38-year-old, known as Reema, saying he had a "beautiful heart and soul" and that his "smile was so infectious". They described a "very cowardly, cruel and senseless act of vicious violence" as having taken his life.
"He wasn't just a brother — he was a son, an uncle, a father, a partner, a nephew, a cousin, a grandson, brother-in-law and friend, and he did not deserve to die the way he did," the family said.
"We are heartbroken and in so much pain and have been left inconsolable as a family."
