A murder investigation is under way in Norfolk after a woman was discovered dead at a residential property, bbc.com reports.

Police were called by the ambulance service shortly after 02:20 BST on Sunday and found the body of a woman in her 40s at an address in Fern Hill, Dersingham. A man in his 40s was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and transferred to King's Lynn Police Investigation Centre, where he remains in custody.

On Monday, officers appeared at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court and were granted an additional 32 hours to question the suspect.

A cordon has been placed around the property. A Home Office post-mortem examination was scheduled to take place on Monday.

Detective Inspector Alix Wright, of the Norfolk and Suffolk major investigation team, said: "We are in the very early stages of this investigation, working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the woman's death. I'd ask anyone who believes they may have information that could help our investigation to please share this with us."

In the nearby village of Grimston, a notice posted on the door of the local medical centre informed patients that it had been temporarily closed. "We are sorry to let patients know that Grimston Medical Centre, including the dispensary, is temporarily closed due to extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team," the sign read. "We apologise for the disruption and appreciate your patience and understanding at what is a very difficult time for our colleagues."

No further details about the victim or the suspect have been released by police at this stage.
