A 67-year-old man from Rochester has been jailed for 16 years after being convicted of repeatedly sexually abusing two children during the 1980s and 1990s, bbc.com reports.

Bernard High, of Jenner Road, was found guilty on all counts at Maidstone Crown Court, where a jury convicted him of 16 offences including indecent assault and gross indecency. High had denied the charges throughout, and the case proceeded to trial.

The crimes were first reported to Kent Police in September 2018, and High was arrested on 17 November of that year. Alongside his custodial sentence, he was placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Detective Sergeant Rachael Cheney described High as a "despicable individual who targeted the vulnerable victims." She added: "The crimes committed by High have had a long-lasting impact on their lives and I hope they can now move forward in the knowledge that their abuser is serving a considerable prison sentence."
