Selma Blair faces assault charges after in-flight incident on Delta Air Lines flight

Actress Selma Blair, 54, was arrested Sunday night following an incident aboard Delta Air Lines Flight 938, travelling from Los Angeles International Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport, cbsnews.com reports.

Two flight attendants sustained injuries during the incident. One was bitten and the other suffered a laceration, according to a law enforcement source. One of the two was taken to hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred at 11 p.m. The flight crew was forced to physically restrain Blair during the flight. In air traffic control audio captured by ATC.com, the pilot could be heard requesting medical personnel at the gate upon landing.

"A bloody nose as well as some bite marks — I don't think we need an ambulance or anything like that, but if we could get some medical personnel at the gate to look at their injuries," the pilot said. "It sounds like the disruptive passenger also bashed her head on the bulkhead or something like that, so we'll obviously have to get her potentially checked out, as well as law enforcement."

Port Authority Police and the FBI were called to the aircraft. The FBI confirmed it was investigating a "potential assault" that took place on board.

Blair was transported by ambulance to Jamaica Hospital for evaluation. During the ambulance transfer, she allegedly kicked a Port Authority Police officer. Once at the hospital, she allegedly assaulted a nurse, according to a law enforcement source.

A source in the district attorney's office confirmed Blair was subsequently released from hospital and taken to Queens Central Booking for arraignment on two counts of assault — state charges relating to the alleged incidents in the ambulance and at the hospital. The FBI additionally issued her a summons for assault within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States.

Blair's attorney stated that she had experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct, without specifying its nature. "Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition," the attorney said.

Blair has spoken publicly on multiple occasions about her diagnosis with multiple sclerosis. In 2025, she gave an interview to People magazine and Travel & Leisure in which she discussed the difficulties she faced while travelling. Her 2022 memoir includes a chapter titled "Bite Me," in which she wrote about past incidents where she bit other celebrities while drinking.

Blair was travelling with her service dog, which has since been placed in the custody of her attorney.

Delta Air Lines issued a statement following the incident: "Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first."

Blair is known for her roles in films including Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde, and Hellboy. In 2022, she competed as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.
