Amazon Driver Held on $2.1M Bond After Fatal Stabbing in Rocky Hill

A 55-year-old Amazon driver stabbed a woman multiple times at her condominium in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, killing her in violation of a standing criminal protective order, Law & Crime reports. Michael Ranger now faces charges including murder and violation of a protective order following his extradition to the state.

The victim, Jacqueline Yolanda Matthews, 59, was found with apparent stab wounds on Aug. 22 after Rocky Hill Police responded to a report of a woman under attack at a complex on Concord Drive — a town of roughly 10 miles south of Hartford. Emergency responders transported Matthews to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The state Office of Chief Medical Examiner determined she died of sharp force injuries to her neck and torso, ruling the manner of death a homicide, according to CT Insider.

Ranger was not present at the scene when officers arrived. Authorities located him the following day in Saratoga Springs, New York, using a license plate reader, and took him into custody. He was extradited to Connecticut on Thursday.

At a court appearance on Friday, prosecutors disclosed that Ranger had an active domestic violence case involving Matthews at the time of the killing, along with a criminal protective order that barred contact with her. The case is being handled by the Rocky Hill Police Department, which announced the charges in late August.

Ranger is originally from Canada and had recently relocated to Florida, according to regional ABC affiliate WTNH. Whether investigators have identified a specific motive has not been confirmed.

He is currently being held on a combined bond of $2.1 million. His arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 17.
