Arizona man arrested over fatal SR-202 chain-reaction crash from 2024

A man has been arrested in Arizona after a nearly two-year investigation into a deadly multi-vehicle crash on State Route 202. Deone Xavier Holland, 37, faces charges including fleeing the scene.

Arizona Department of Public Safety detectives arrested a 37-year-old man on 3 September 2026 in connection with a fatal multi-vehicle crash that took place on State Route 202 in Tempe, according to arizonadailyindependent.com.

The crash occurred on 3 November 2024 at approximately 2:57 a.m., when troopers responded to a collision on westbound SR-202 near milepost 8. A 2019 Dodge Journey struck a 2015 Honda Pilot from behind at around 96 mph, pushing the Honda into the median where it came to rest blocking the roadway.

Roughly 30 seconds later, a 2017 Audi Q7 struck the disabled Honda. Approximately five minutes after that, a 2018 Ford Focus struck the Audi, creating a third collision in the chain.

The series of crashes left one person dead and two others with serious injuries.

Detectives identified Deone Xavier Holland, 37, as the driver of the Dodge Journey. Investigators determined Holland left the scene without calling for emergency assistance.

Holland was taken into custody on 3 September 2026 at approximately 9 a.m. on a grand jury warrant. Specific charges had not been fully detailed in the published report at the time of writing.
