Suspect charged after brutal Fells Point street robbery

Baltimore police have arrested Montray McCray, 32, in connection with the assault and robbery of an elderly couple in Fells Point, foxbaltimore.com reports.

The attack took place around 9:30 a.m. on 29 September in the 1700 block of Fleet Street, just blocks from Broadway Market. A friend, Takeya Little, said the couple — identified by friends as Wade and Claudia — had been eating breakfast at the market shortly before the assault.

According to police, McCray knocked both victims to the ground and fled with one of their wallets. A 60-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman were both assaulted; both were taken to hospital following the attack.

Little said that as of 30 September, Wade was recovering and had remained at his wife's bedside, while Claudia remained in critical condition. Police had previously noted that her injuries were severe enough to prompt notification of homicide detectives, though authorities have not confirmed her death.

McCray was taken into custody on 1 October in the unit block of South Carrollton Avenue. He was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where he faces charges of assault, robbery, and reckless endangerment.

Baltimore Police have not publicly released the names of the victims. The investigation remains open, pending the condition of the 76-year-old woman.
