Bronx Man Charged with Murdering Mother in Concourse Village Apartment

Bronx Son Arrested After Tip Following Mother's Killing on Grand Concourse

A 33-year-old Bronx man was taken into custody Tuesday after a member of the public recognized him from surveillance footage released by police, according to NY Post Metro. Bob Johnny Guzman Soto now faces murder charges in connection with the death of his mother, Josefa Soto De Carmen, 57, inside their shared apartment on Grand Concourse near East 168th Street in Concourse Village.

Officers arrived at the residence around 3:30 p.m. Friday after a call brought them to the scene. They found Soto De Carmen unresponsive on a couch, covered in blood and with trauma to her head and torso. EMS personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.

Guzman Soto fled the apartment following the killing, police said. The NYPD released video footage Monday showing him wheeling a suitcase through a building lobby — confirmed by authorities to be the last known sighting of him before his arrest. It was not immediately clear whether the footage came from the residence he shared with his mother.

A passerby who spotted Guzman Soto on West 170th Street near Edward L. Grant Highway shortly after viewing the footage alerted police, leading to his arrest.

In addition to murder, Guzman Soto was charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. What weapons, if any, were used in the assault had not been determined as of Wednesday. Arraignment proceedings were still pending at that time.

Authorities confirmed Guzman Soto had no prior arrests on record.
