spectrumlocalnews.com reports that Keith Brunelle, 58, has been charged with murder and criminal use of explosives in connection with the killing of his neighbour James Smith, 48, at Bay Bridge Estates in Brunswick, Maine.

Police responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots at 5 Valerie Ave. at 12:48 a.m. on 1 September, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss. Officers arrived to find Smith deceased at the scene.

The chief medical examiner's office determined that Smith died from a gunshot wound and ruled the death a homicide, Moss said.

Brunelle, who also resides at 5 Valerie Ave., was initially arrested for violating the conditions of his bail and subsequently released from Cumberland County Jail after posting bail.

Following further investigation, police arrested Brunelle on 11 September at a home in Augusta. He was taken into custody without incident, according to Moss.

Brunelle was transported to Cumberland County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
