A 32-year-old California woman has been charged with murder after allegedly driving her SUV into a friend in an apartment complex parking lot — and less than two hours later, a second close friend was found stabbed to death at a separate location, NY Post Metro reports.

Anila Baby faces a murder charge in connection with the death of 35-year-old Anjana Hari, according to a criminal complaint and police affidavit cited by Indica News and The Federal.

The sequence of events began Friday around noon at the Mill Creek Apartments in Milpitas. A witness told police that Hari approached Baby's blue Toyota Highlander carrying a bag. She appeared relaxed and was smiling. No fight or confrontation was observed before the SUV allegedly lurched forward, striking Hari. Baby then continued driving, colliding with three parked vehicles before leaving the complex.

Hari suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 12:12 p.m. Police initially classified the incident as a hit-and-run.

"This is a very unsettling incident for the city of Milpitas," Milpitas Police Department Capt. Jason Speckenheuer told KTVU. "It was initially reported as a hit-and-run, but after further investigation and elements, it appeared that it was an intentional act on her part."

Officers located Baby roughly a mile away in a Walgreens parking lot shortly after the incident. "She appeared incoherent and was unable to answer questions. She had visible injuries in her hand and legs," Detective Tailor Goods wrote in a court report.

At 1:53 p.m., San Jose police responded to a residence in the 700 block of Linda Vista Street. Inside, officers found 40-year-old Ann Mary Mathew with at least one stab wound. Her death was ruled a homicide, according to The Federal, citing On Manorama.

Mathew and Hari were both reportedly close friends of Baby's. The two deaths occurred at separate locations, despite earlier reports placing all three women at the same Milpitas complex.

The Federal has reported allegations that Baby was responsible for both deaths. Milpitas police, however, have not publicly established that connection in materials released so far. Investigators reportedly recovered forensic evidence, though authorities have not disclosed what it shows.

Friends and community members rejected suggestions that job loss or depression may have motivated the killings, saying they were unaware of any tensions between the women. The case has shaken the Bay Area's Malayalee community.

Baby is being held without bail at the Santa Clara County Jail and is scheduled to return to court on September 10.
