18 arrested in Canton drug and weapons raids

Canton's Police Coordinated Response Team (CRT) carried out two search warrants on Friday, resulting in 18 arrests, cleveland19.com reports.

The operation, led by Chief John Gabbard, drew on support from the Stark County Regional SWAT Team, the Community Involvement Unit, the Stark County Sheriff's Office METRO Unit, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and the ATF.

The first warrant was served at 927 5th St. NW. Officers found the property in an uninhabitable condition, prompting the city's health and code departments to be notified. The humane society removed six dogs and three cats from the premises. Police recovered one firearm, narcotics, and drug paraphernalia. Seventeen arrests were made at that location, with charges ranging from felonies to misdemeanors.

The same multi-agency team then executed a second warrant at an apartment at 1020 Clarendon Ave. NW. According to the police release, "a large amount of U.S. Currency and narcotics were seized." One arrest was made there, bringing the total to 18.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional criminal charges are pending.
