Capital Murder Conviction Upheld for Mobile County Man Who Stabbed Victim During Burglary

Alabama's Court of Criminal Appeals has affirmed the capital murder conviction of Breore Alferi Williams, 28, of Mobile, sentenced to life without parole.

Google News MT — Crime (en) reports that the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the capital murder conviction of Breore Alferi Williams, 28, of Mobile, in connection with the December 2021 killing of Robert Ragona.

Mobile police discovered Ragona's body on the morning of 14 December 2021 at the Isle Parkway Apartments. The victim had sustained numerous stab wounds. Williams drew the attention of investigators after he was observed entering the victim's apartment following its police-ordered closure to the public. Authorities determined he had sought to conceal evidence and steal mobile phones belonging to Ragona.

DNA evidence linked Williams to both the victim's apartment and items of his own clothing. He was convicted of capital murder on the grounds that he killed Ragona in the course of burglarising his apartment.

The Mobile County Circuit Court handed down the conviction on 15 August 2025. Williams was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. He subsequently appealed, seeking to have the conviction overturned.

The Attorney General's Criminal Appeals Division argued before the Court of Criminal Appeals in favour of affirming the conviction. The court issued its ruling on 14 August 2026, upholding the original verdict.

Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the outcome on 25 August 2026, commending Assistant Attorney General John E. Owen for his work on the appeal. Marshall also acknowledged Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood, who had successfully prosecuted the case at trial and obtained the initial guilty verdict, along with his staff.
