College Student Knocked Unconscious in Hollywood 7-Eleven Robbery Over Gold Chain
An 18-year-old Cal State student was beaten unconscious at a Hollywood 7-Eleven at 12:30 a.m. Sunday by two suspects who stole her gold chain.
Attack on Hollywood Boulevard Leaves Teen Unconscious
Two suspects ambushed an 18-year-old college student inside a 7-Eleven on Hollywood Boulevard early Sunday morning, beating her unconscious and stealing her gold chain, NY Post Metro reports.
Destiny Valderrama was at the store at 6702 Hollywood Blvd. at around 12:30 a.m. when the attack occurred, according to the LAPD. She had attended a quinceañera earlier that evening and stopped in for snacks on the way back with two friends.
Surveillance footage shows a young woman pulling Valderrama to the ground from behind. A male accomplice then repeatedly slammed her head against the floor until she lost consciousness.
"My friends tried helping by intervening, and they ended up getting dropped to the floor and dragged as well," Valderrama told OnScene.TV. "I couldn't even stand up to walk properly out of fear, and I continuously begged the 7-Eleven workers for help and to call the cops."
She said none of the store employees responded to her pleas. "None of them called or were willing to help and instead kicked us out and told us to leave," she added.
Valderrama, a second-year student at Cal State University, Dominguez Hills, filed a police report after the attack but said she had not yet heard back from investigators. An LAPD spokesperson confirmed the report had been received and that an investigation was ongoing.
She told the California Post she does not know either of the two suspects and hopes police will "catch them soon."
The incident is the latest in a series of violent episodes at 7-Eleven locations in California. Last month, a group of nearly 20 teenagers stormed a 7-Eleven in Oakland, looting merchandise and damaging the store. Some later returned and attempted to force their way back inside. One worker reported that a person ripped the store's metal door handle off and hurled it through a glass door, striking the store manager in the face.
