A Tennessee man faces multiple charges — including attempted murder of a police officer — after leading authorities on a 100 mph interstate chase into Kentucky, firing at a pursuing officer, and fleeing on foot into a soybean field in Warren County on Saturday, wbko.com reports.

The incident began in Portland, Tennessee, where Edward Brown fled from Portland Police Officer Matt Stephens during an investigation into an officer-involved shooting. The chase crossed the state line into Kentucky, with speeds reaching 100 mph along Interstate 65 and Interstate 165.

Brown's vehicle eventually became disabled on Plano Road near the Interstate 165 interchange. He then abandoned the car and ran into an adjacent soybean field, carrying a handgun.

Deputies from the Warren County Sheriff's Office and troopers with Kentucky State Police responded to assist. Following a search of the field, Brown surrendered to law enforcement.

A passenger in the vehicle, identified as Anastasia Payton — the car's registered owner — was listed as a missing person in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.

Warren County Sheriff's K9 Rocky, trained in firearm odor detection, tracked the field and alerted handlers to a discarded 9mm handgun. Investigators noted that Brown is a convicted felon and is legally prohibited from possessing firearms.
