Illegal fireworks spark fatal wildfire in Douglas County
An 18-year-old from Kent, Washington has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and arson following a deadly July 4 wildfire in Douglas County, ABC News US reports. Douglas County Sheriff Tyler Caille announced the arrest Thursday and said authorities are seeking warrants for five additional suspects.
The teen was part of a group shooting off illegal fireworks from the bed of a pickup truck when one landed in dry roadside brush, igniting the Chelan Hills Fire. The blaze tore through roughly 15.6 square miles, destroying more than 100 structures before it was contained.
Robert Lister, 69, of Orondo, was killed. His vehicle slid off the road and was overtaken by the fast-moving flames, authorities confirmed earlier this week.
Sheriff Caille said all six individuals implicated are adults and are "complicit with the same crimes." He directed those still at large to surrender voluntarily, warning that if they do not, "we will come find you."
