A man lost his life on Monday after gunfire erupted during a dispute near a mosque in Columbus, Ohio, according to ERTnews.gr (https://www.ertnews.gr/eidiseis/ipa-enas-nekros-apo-pyrovolismous-konta-se-tzami-sto-oxaio-ti-dieykrinizei-i-astynomia-2/).

City police were quick to clarify that the lethal incident did not amount to a targeted assault on the religious building. James Fuqua, representing the Columbus Police Department, cautioned the public against rushing to judgments about what drove the shooter to open fire.

Fuqua portrayed the matter as a physical confrontation involving multiple people inside a residential compound, while noting that investigators still do not know why the quarrel began.

Officers from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives took part in the response. The ATF noted that bullets flew while mourners were exiting a burial service at the Al-Rahma mosque. The shooting unfolded just steps away from the structure, although detectives have not pinpointed the exact cause of the disagreement.

The agency’s Columbus office confirmed that its personnel rushed to the 2200 block of Albert Avenue once the emergency call came in. Officials promised that more information would be made public as the examination continues.
