Five dead after shooting at Mundelein family home in Chicago suburbs
Five people were found dead from gunshot wounds inside a residential property on Wellington Avenue in Mundelein, Illinois, abc11.com reports.
Officers responded to the home at around 11:45 p.m. Sunday following a well-being check. Upon entering, they discovered three men and two women, all deceased. Police said the victims appeared to be family members or to share a domestic relationship.
Two handguns were recovered at the scene. Investigators were observed entering and exiting the house and examining several vehicles in the driveway. Officers also forced entry into a grey Volkswagen parked in an adjacent lot, though it remains unclear what, if anything, was found inside or how it connects to the case.
Neighbours told WLS, abc11.com's sister station, that the couple living in the home were retired veterinarians. Residents described the woman as a well-liked figure in the neighbourhood who regularly walked local streets.
"She was a spry, retired veterinarian," one neighbour said. "She was a friendly person. She'd wave to people. She'd have conversations with all kinds of neighbours… I'm horrified that this would happen to somebody and somebody that I knew."
Police said the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no broader threat to the public. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mundelein Police Department at 847-968-4600.
