A man sharing the same name as the father of missing Washington, D.C. mother Antoinette Forbes' son is in custody at Beaver County Jail in Pennsylvania, nbcwashington.com reports. Pennsylvania State Police confirmed the detention, though authorities have not disclosed the charges or stated whether the arrest is connected to Forbes' disappearance.
Forbes, a D.C. mother, was last seen near her Northwest D.C. home on 4 September. Family members said they last heard from her on 5 September, when she failed to join her regular Sunday phone call with loved ones.
Investigators have been observed entering and leaving her home throughout the past week, photographing the property and examining her vehicle. Friends say police indicated the residence was off-limits to others and appeared to be treating it as a crime scene.
Court records show Forbes had been engaged in a years-long custody dispute over her son prior to her disappearance. Friends and family who entered the home found her two mobile phones, wallet and car keys inside, with the front door left unlocked.
On Saturday night, close ones gathered at the National Presbyterian Church for a vigil in her honour. Rachel Clark, who has known Forbes for over a decade, described the mood among those present.
"She's a devoted mom, sister, friend. She's family to a lot of us who are here tonight as friends organising this," Clark said. "We miss her deeply. We are eager to bring her home."
Alison Williams, another close friend who attended the vigil, also spoke about their bond.
"I met her when I was 21 years old, and for the last 27 years, there's been a friend group, five of us, that have gone through marriages, divorces, families growing, and we're very interested in seeing her return to her son," Williams said.
Forbes' family and friends are urging anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact D.C. police.
