Ex-Lawrence officer pulled over in N.H. while posing as active cop
A man dismissed from the Lawrence Police Department last year was arrested on Sunday in New Hampshire after allegedly impersonating a police officer, boston.com reports.
Mikel Beltran, 37, of Andover, was stopped on Rockingham Road in Londonderry after witnesses spotted blue lights flashing from his SUV. Officers who pulled him over found him wearing a Lawrence Police Department jacket and carrying a matching badge.
Beltran told the Londonderry officers he was an active Lawrence police officer. When asked to produce his police ID, he said he had left it at home.
Lawrence police confirmed that Beltran had in fact been terminated. He was placed on administrative leave in September 2024 and formally separated from employment in March 2025. The Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission then suspended him in May 2025, stripping him of his law enforcement certification.
Officer Maciel Sandoval told boston.com that since his termination, Beltran "has had no affiliation" with the department. Lawrence police declined to comment further on the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
State records indicate Beltran was dismissed for allegedly discharging a handgun while on duty, according to CBS News. He also allegedly made sexual remarks to a 16-year-old and assaulted a person aged 14 or older.
Court documents show that Beltran is separately suing the Lawrence Police Department, claiming officers unconstitutionally searched his phone to obtain information used as grounds for his firing, CBS reported.
