A 39-year-old Florida woman is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly drugging a man she met on a dating app — a dispute reportedly triggered by dissatisfaction with a car he had purchased for her, Law & Crime reports.

Samantha Adams, held at Polk County Jail without bond, is charged with second-degree attempted murder, tampering with evidence, and possession of prescription drugs including oxycodone, hydrocodone, and alprazolam, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say Adams — who identified herself on the app only as "Nala" — mixed benzodiazepine, a drug found in anxiety medications and muscle relaxers, into the victim's whiskey drink. He was later taken to the hospital and tested positive for the substance.

"She tried to kill him. She tried to overdose him. She tried to extort him," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a video statement.

The investigation opened Aug. 20 after the victim reported his suspicions to authorities. He told deputies he had met Adams through a dating app and that she had been at his home several days earlier. An argument broke out over the car he had bought her. She left, then returned carrying two whiskey drinks.

After he drank the whiskey — as "things progressed romantically," according to police — Adams abruptly stopped and demanded $1,000. He refused. She left. Later that night, he felt increasingly groggy and lost consciousness.

Hospital doctors confirmed he had suffered a benzodiazepine overdose. The victim told investigators he was not taking any medication containing that drug. He also described earlier episodes of feeling groggy and blacking out while drinking with Adams — including one incident in which he accidentally reversed into a police cruiser.

A second man came forward during the investigation with a similar account, according to the arrest affidavit.

"We refer to her as Black Widow," Judd said.

Deputies arrested Adams last week. She was allegedly found in possession of multiple prescription drugs at the time of her arrest. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 29.

Judd warned that additional victims may exist. "It is possible that there could be more people out there who have been victimized by Samantha Adams," he said. "Her motivation is money, and as we have seen with this case, she is willing to go to great lengths to get money — including murder."
