Adams had recently resigned from her position at Cold Springs High School, where she had led the girls' team to the state championship final. Court documents indicate she allegedly exchanged explicit content with the young man dozens of times over approximately one month.

The accused has filed a motion to dismiss all charges. Her defense argues that the alleged victim was already 18 years old and was not enrolled at the school where she worked, meaning no supervisory or educational authority existed between them. According to the court filing, "the accused never held a position of authority over the alleged victim."

The case has drawn strong reactions in the local community, where Adams had been regarded as a positive figure in school sports. The developments have also affected her personal life, as her husband has filed for divorce and is seeking custody of their child.
