Tyler Hooper, a former finance director for the city of Dalhart, Texas, was arrested Thursday on one count of fraudulent use or possession of identifying information involving 50 or more items, according to abc7amarillo.com. Gillespie County jail records show he was released Friday on a $100,000 bond.

Hooper held the position of finance director in Dalhart from November 2024 to November 2025. Prior to that role, he spent more than 12 years with the city of Pampa, serving as a network administrator and risk manager.

In November 2025, Hooper was hired as assistant finance director for the city of Fredericksburg. A city news release at the time noted that Hooper "continues a family-tradition of municipal service as his father – Donny has 29 years of city government experience and is currently the Assistant City Manager of Amarillo."

Hooper resigned from the City of Fredericksburg on 9 September — eight days before his arrest. ABC 7 News requested confirmation of the resignation date, the reason given, and a copy of the resignation letter. Sean Doerre, the city's communications director and public information officer, confirmed in an email that Hooper had resigned on 9 September. "In accordance with policy, the City does not comment on former employees," Doerre added.

No details of the specific allegation have been released.

Under Texas law, fraudulent use or possession of identifying information involving 50 or more items constitutes a first-degree felony. A conviction carries a sentence of five to 99 years or life in prison, along with a fine of up to $10,000. Texas Penal Code 32.51 defines "identifying information" as any information that, alone or combined with other data, identifies a person.
