Florida congressional candidate arrested on written threat charges

Elijah Manley, who contested Florida's 20th congressional district seat in this year's Democratic primary, was booked into jail on Friday on two counts of intimidation — writing or sending threats to kill or injure, nbcmiami.com reports.

Manley finished third in the August Democratic primary, behind incumbent Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who defeated him in the race.

Authorities have not released details on the specific circumstances of the arrest. Broward State Attorney's Office spokesperson Paula McMahon said in a statement that her office will not be handling the case because the "listed victims have participated in several charitable drives organised by the Broward State Attorney's Office over the years."

McMahon confirmed the office has requested that the governor assign the matter to a different state attorney's office.

Manley was issued a $40,000 bond. As conditions of his release, he was ordered not to possess any weapons, make contact with the victims, or post on social media.
