Off-duty CPD officer loses police powers after shooting two men in Little Village

A Chicago Police Department officer involved in an off-duty shooting that left two men injured has been relieved of his police powers, abc7chicago.com reports.

The incident took place earlier this month on 24th Street, between Washtenaw and Rockwell avenues in the Little Village neighbourhood.

According to CPD and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA), the off-duty officer first exchanged words with a group of people. He then shot one man, drove to the end of the block, and opened fire at the group a second time.

Residents and community activists in Little Village have since called for criminal charges to be filed against the officer.

COPA has asked anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 312-746-3609 or through their website at chicagocopa.org.
