Former MSU Resident Physician Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Patients

Ex-MSU Physician Held in Atlanta After Sexual Assault Charges Filed
A former resident physician at Michigan State University has been arrested on charges of criminal sexual conduct against patients, uppermichiganssource.com reports. Arpit Saxena, 39, was taken into custody Thursday night at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia.
MSU Department of Police and Public Safety Chief Mike Yankowski announced the arrest at a press conference on Friday. Saxena has not yet been arraigned and is currently awaiting extradition from the Clayton County Jail in Georgia.
At Least Two Victims Identified
Yankowski confirmed that investigators have identified at least two victims but believe there may be more. Saxena faces three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.
The investigation began on 3 April 2025, when MSU police were called to the MSU Health Care facility on Hagadorn Road. A woman reported that she had just left a medical appointment with Saxena and had been sexually assaulted during the examination. Based on the severity of the allegations, Saxena was "promptly removed from seeing any patients" on 7 April 2025 and was subsequently dismissed from his position entirely.
As the investigation progressed, a second adult female came forward to report she had also been sexually assaulted by Saxena during an appointment. MSU police concluded their investigation on 28 August 2025 and filed a warrant request the same day; the warrants were authorised several days later.
University Notified Multiple Departments
Yankowski said the MSU Police Department forwarded the case to its special victims crime unit as part of its trauma-informed victim centre practices. Several departments were also notified, including the Center for Survivors, the Office of Civil Rights, MSU Healthcare Inc., and MSU Human Resources.
MSU Healthcare is currently in the process of contacting all patients who were seen by Saxena.
University Issues Apology
The university released a statement late Friday afternoon expressing regret over the incident:
"Patients deserve to be treated with dignity, respect and professionalism, and we regret that this trust was broken. We are deeply sorry for the harm this has caused and apologize to those affected by this abuse."
The statement confirmed that a violation was first reported in April 2025 and that the university took prompt action to remove Saxena from patient care and initiate the appropriate reporting processes. The individual has since been dismissed by the university and charged by the Ingham County Prosecutor.
