Frankfort Mother Charged with Murder in Death of Toddler Son
A mother from Frankfort, Illinois, has been charged with murder after allegedly killing her two-year-old son, Barrett, and subsequently attempting to harm herself, Google News MT reports.
According to court documents cited by NBC 5 Chicago, the woman — identified as Corie A. Walsh — provided a reason for the killing in statements reviewed by prosecutors. The incident took place at a home on Brook Stone Court, where Frankfort police later responded to the scene.
Walsh is accused of hanging her young son, prosecutors say. Hours before the fatal incident unfolded, she had sent text messages referencing the trial of Lindsay Clancy — a Massachusetts mother convicted in connection with the deaths of her children — according to NBC 5 Chicago.
The Chicago Tribune and ABC7 Chicago also reported on the case, noting that prosecutors cited the text messages as part of the evidence against Walsh. Frankfort police formally charged her with murder following their investigation.
Walsh had also attempted to harm herself during or around the same incident, according to court filings. She was subsequently taken into custody.
The case has drawn significant attention in the Chicago area due to the circumstances surrounding the killing and the reference to the Clancy trial. Illinois authorities have not publicly detailed a full motive beyond what is contained in the court documents.
