Tulare woman killed after domestic assault, suspect arrested for DUI with blood on clothing
A 41-year-old Fresno man has been charged with homicide following a fatal domestic violence incident in Tulare, California, abc30.com reports.
The Tulare Police Department received a call in the early hours of Sunday morning about a domestic disturbance at a party. Officers arrived to find that a man had assaulted a woman and then driven her away from the scene before police could intervene. Nearby law enforcement agencies were alerted to watch for the pair.
Some 90 minutes later, a second call came in reporting an injured person near the intersection of Bardsley Avenue and Pratt Street. Officers found the woman severely injured at that location. Despite medical assistance being provided, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators confirmed she was the same victim from the earlier domestic violence call.
Detectives identified 41-year-old Marcelo Rodriguez of Fresno as the suspect. Before they were able to locate him, Rodriguez had already been taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol in Kings County on a DUI charge. During that arrest, CHP officers observed blood on his body and clothing.
Rodriguez was subsequently transported back to Tulare and booked on charges including homicide.
