A juvenile was taken into custody Wednesday after threatening to carry out a mass stabbing at Duncan Polytechnical High School in Fresno, California, on September 11, the Fresno Police Department announced. NY Post Metro reports the arrest followed a warning message sent by a friend of the suspect that circulated through students, parents, and eventually reached authorities.

The message, which spread through a social media chat, was direct: "There is going to be a mass stabbing at Duncan High School on September 11th, this is not a joke, or a hoax." It urged classmates not to attend school that day, stating the suspect "doesn't like people" and had planned an attack for reasons otherwise unknown.

The warning passed from the suspect's friend to another student, then to a parent, and finally to the Fresno Police Department. Officers and a school resource officer were able to identify the student responsible.

Fresno Unified School District confirmed the sequence of events in a statement. "This incident stems from a threat made in a chat on social media," the district said. "The Fresno Police Department and school resource officer were able to identify the student involved. The individual will face appropriate disciplinary action."

Fresno PD confirmed to The Post that "a minor juvenile was booked into custody for charges related to the investigation" and indicated no additional arrests are anticipated.

The threat carried particular significance given its date — September 11, which this year marks the 25th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Reactions on social media were largely focused on the person who first spoke up. "Big thank you to the student that did the right thing. Our granddaughters are freshmen there," one commenter wrote. Another added: "Kudos to that student! He needs a medal. This just proves if people would speak up when they hear about something like this it would be stopped before anyone gets hurt."

Duncan Polytechnical High School is a public school within the Fresno Unified School District. It focuses on Applied Technology and Health Sciences, combining academic instruction with work experience and extracurricular programming.
