FSU Freshman Dismissed After High-Speed Chase and False Imprisonment Charges

Florida State University dismissed freshman cornerback Chuck Kennon on Tuesday, days after his arrest on Sunday following an alleged high-speed chase in the Tampa area, sports.yahoo.com reports.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), troopers pursued Kennon's SUV at speeds exceeding 150 mph through multiple 50 mph zones. He allegedly refused to allow a female passenger to exit the vehicle during the chase.

Kennon has been charged with aggravated fleeing to elude and false imprisonment — both felonies — as well as resisting an officer without violence.

FHP's affidavit states that the SUV ran a red light at the intersection of State Road 60 and U.S. 301 while other vehicles were crossing. Kennon swerved to avoid a collision and struck a raised curb. The vehicle then continued eastbound on State Road 60, reaching speeds above 150 mph. He subsequently drove southbound on Interstate 75, where the pursuing trooper's patrol car reached 140 mph but was unable to close the gap.

Kennon was taken into custody at approximately 2 a.m. after his vehicle was found on the side of a two-lane road with a flat tyre. The female passenger was located roughly 90 minutes later, according to FHP, found "covered in dirt, blood and grass." She told troopers she had asked Kennon to stop more than ten times because she feared for her safety.

The Sarasota native had been rated among the top recruits in FSU's 2026 class — a four-star prospect ranked No. 70 nationally and No. 14 in the state of Florida.
