A 29-year-old Georgia man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison following an investigation by the Georgetown Police Department in South Carolina, live5news.com reports.

Demar Walker pleaded guilty on Thursday to criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, first-degree burglary, and kidnapping, all arising from an incident that took place in Georgetown on February 1, 2024. Walker was arrested within hours of the incident, according to the Georgetown Police Department (GPD).

GPD investigators gathered substantial evidence through a thorough investigation conducted with the cooperation of the victim. Circuit Judge B. Alex Hyman of the 15th Circuit sentenced Walker to 20 years for each charge. Walker had no prior criminal history.

The 15th Circuit Solicitor's Office confirmed that Walker is not eligible for parole. Upon his release, he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

GPD Chief Nelson Brown credited multiple parties for the outcome. "This outcome reflects the dedication of our officers and investigators, the efforts of the Solicitor's Office, and the courage of the victim," Brown said. "Our department remains committed to protecting our community, supporting victims, and holding violent offenders accountable."
