Two guilty pleas in Clovis educator Geoffrey Bernardi murder case

Guilty pleas entered nearly a year after Clovis teacher's death

Almost a year after the killing of Clovis educator Geoffrey Bernardi, both defendants charged in his murder have pleaded guilty, abc30.com reports.

Misty Rose Gomez and Antonio Garcia entered pleas of second-degree murder on Tuesday. Gomez is expected to be sentenced to 15 years to life in prison, while Garcia faces 16 years to life.

A day before the pleas, Gomez's 12-year-old daughter took the stand against her own mother and stepfather. The girl testified that Gomez had admitted she and Garcia had hurt Bernardi, before taking her and her sister to Mexico on what was described as a "vacation."

Both suspects were subsequently arrested in Mexico and extradited to Fresno County. Investigators had previously noted that Gomez initially told authorities Bernardi had been attacked by a homeless man.
