Clancy, a Massachusetts mother, stood accused of murdering her three children in January 2023 at the family home in Duxbury. Prosecutors alleged she strangled the children before jumping from a window, sustaining serious injuries.

The defence had argued that Clancy was in a severe dissociative state caused by postpartum psychosis, brought on in part by a combination of prescription medications. Her legal team maintained she had no conscious control over her actions at the time of the killings.

The failure of the jury to agree on a verdict leaves open the possibility of a retrial. No date has been announced by prosecutors as to whether the case will be brought before a new jury.
