4-Month-Old Pronounced Dead After Being Brought to Sacramento Fire Station
A four-month-old infant is dead and a 22-year-old Sacramento man faces a homicide charge after the baby was brought to a local fire station in an unresponsive state, NY Post Metro reports.
Sacramento police officers arrived at the fire station shortly after 9 a.m. on August 14, 2025, following reports that the child had been taken there from a residence in the 1700 block of West El Camino Avenue, according to the Sacramento Police Department. Emergency responders rushed the infant to a nearby hospital, where lifesaving efforts failed and the baby was pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators assumed control of the case, processing the scene, gathering evidence, and interviewing witnesses. Following a review by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office, the death was officially ruled a homicide.
Detectives identified Victor Weaver, a 22-year-old Sacramento resident, as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant. Weaver was taken into custody on Tuesday and booked into Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of homicide, police confirmed.
California law does provide a safe-haven option for parents unable to care for a newborn — the state's Safely Surrendered Baby Law permits the confidential surrender of infants 72 hours old or younger to a designated hospital or fire station employee, without risk of abandonment prosecution, as long as the baby shows no signs of abuse or neglect. Because the child was four months old, that protection did not apply in this case.
Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the infant's injuries or clarified Weaver's relationship to the child. The baby's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
