Escaped inmate wanted on sexual assault charges in St. Louis
St. Louis police warned residents on Sunday to lock their doors and secure their garages after an inmate broke out of the City Justice Center in downtown St. Louis, stlpr.org reports.
The escapee has been identified as Maurio Thomas, 29, standing 5'9" and weighing 130 pounds. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved black shirt, dark pants and white shoes.
Police released a blurred surveillance image on social media Sunday morning showing Thomas on a street near the facility. Investigators are deploying cameras from the Real-Time Crime Center, K-9 teams and the department's intelligence units to locate him.
Authorities have not disclosed how or when Thomas managed to leave the City Justice Center.
Court records show Thomas was being held without bond on two counts of first-degree burglary and two counts of first-degree sodomy. According to a probable cause statement, he is accused of breaking into a woman's home and sexually assaulting her on 16 August and again on 9 October. Police stated that Thomas admitted to both crimes during interviews.
Anyone who spots Thomas is urged not to approach him and to call 911 immediately.
