A man charged in a 2012 Iowa kidnapping case has been taken into custody in San Diego, where authorities say he spent nearly 14 years working as a chef under a false name, 10news.com reports.

Brian Anthony Williams, now 50, was charged in Scott County, Iowa, in 2012 for his alleged role in the kidnapping, assault and shooting of a woman in Davenport. He fled the state in 2013, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Williams appeared on local television stations in the Quad Cities area as a most wanted fugitive and was listed on the U.S. Marshals Service Southern District of Iowa's website. Despite this, he remained at large for more than a decade.

In September, USMS officials learned that Williams had been living in San Diego under the name Troy Williams and was employed as a chef. "Additional investigation showed that the individual believed to be Williams had appeared in local publications and television news reports under that assumed identity," officials said.

On Tuesday, U.S. marshals located Williams at a business in the 3700 block of Mission Boulevard in Mission Beach and took him into custody without incident. He is expected to be extradited to Iowa.

U.S. Marshal Ted Kamatchus, for the Southern District of Iowa, said in a statement: "This arrest is a perfect example of those who think they have bested law enforcement and evaded arrest. Deputy U.S. Marshals remain resolute in their relentless pursuit of the most dangerous offenders in our society."

Williams faces charges of first-degree kidnapping, assault causing serious injury, conspiracy to commit a felony and first-degree arson in connection with the 2012 Davenport case. He is also charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
