A gunman opened fire on multiple vehicles along interstate highways in Kansas City, Missouri, on Tuesday night, leaving one person dead and four others wounded. The attacks unfolded over roughly half an hour along Interstate 670 and Interstate 70, forcing police to respond to multiple locations across the city.

Among the victims were soccer fans traveling by Uber to watch the Argentina–Algeria World Cup match. One supporter told the Argentine newspaper La Nacion that another vehicle pulled alongside and fired twice at their car. "The driver hit the brakes and then we realized he had been shot," the fan said. "He had a bullet hole in his leg. It was terrifying."

Authorities identified the suspect as 22-year-old Oscar Sanchez-Munoz and warned the public to consider him armed and extremely dangerous. Police tracked him to a residence in nearby Independence, Missouri, leading to a prolonged standoff. During the operation a fire broke out inside the home, and when officers eventually entered they found no one inside.

The shootings occurred just ten days after another incident in which nine people were slightly injured by gunfire about four miles from the England national team's World Cup base in Kansas City. Investigators said there was no indication the attack was connected to the specific match or to the tournament itself.

"We are very close to locating this individual and we want to ensure he is apprehended as soon as possible," said Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves during a press briefing.
