Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to stand trial before US military court in June 2028

The alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks is scheduled for trial on June 5, 2028, after years of delays and a withdrawn plea deal.

KSM trial date set for 2028 after decades of delays

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged architect of the September 11, 2001 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people, is scheduled to face a US military court on June 5, 2028, Barbados Today reports, citing AFP.

Mohammed — widely referred to as KSM — was captured in Pakistan in March 2003. He spent three years in undisclosed CIA detention facilities before being transferred in 2006 to the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where he has remained.

The trial has been subject to repeated postponements spanning more than two decades. Most recently, a plea agreement that would have taken the death penalty off the table was withdrawn last year, resetting the legal process.

Mohammed himself has stated that he organised the September 11 attacks "from A to Z." On that morning, hijacked aircraft struck the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon outside Washington. A fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania.

Beyond the 2001 attacks, Mohammed has also claimed responsibility for the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center and the 2002 killing of US journalist Daniel Pearl.
