Murder suspect escorted from precinct amid shouts from victim's family

Angry relatives shouted at a murder suspect as police walked him out of the 33rd Precinct in Washington Heights on Saturday night, abc7ny.com reports.

Tiliek Thompson, 41, has been charged with the killing of Lovay Williams, 27, who was found dead inside her apartment on 156th Street with trauma to her face and neck. Her 7-year-old daughter was present at the time of the attack. Relatives of Williams had to be held back by a police barricade as Thompson was escorted past them.

Police said Williams was discovered unconscious and unresponsive in her home and was pronounced dead at the scene. Relatives said she and Thompson had been in a relationship.

Williams's father directed his rage at the suspect. "He's the devil," he said. "Anytime you'd kill a young female in front of her — anytime you put your hands on a woman — you a piece of garbage."

Her brother remembered Williams as a devoted parent. "Very attentive to her child. Best mom in the world," he said. "It's just sad and unfortunate that this happened to my sister."

Domestic violence activists joined a vigil held for Williams, calling for greater public awareness of the issue. "It's a silent killer that is killing women on the regular and it's the signs we need to understand," said Stephanie McGraw, founder of WARM.
