Fatal shooting at Lincoln Park bar among five overnight incidents in Chicago

Fox32chicago.com reports that a man was killed outside a bar in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighbourhood and four other people were wounded in separate shootings across the city overnight Sunday into Monday, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The fatal shooting occurred around 11:43 p.m. Sunday in the 2200 block of North Lincoln Avenue. Police said a fight broke out outside the bar before someone drew a weapon and shot a 30-year-old man multiple times. He was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition and later died. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Malik McCorkle. Officers recovered a gun at the scene. A suspect is in custody and charges are pending. Area Three detectives are leading the investigation.

Alderman Timmy Knudsen of the 43rd Ward issued a statement following the shooting. "Since earlier this summer, my office has led an aggressive push for further restrictions on late night bars on this stretch of Lincoln Avenue," Knudsen said, adding that he is "hopeful and confident" the Department of Business Affairs & Consumer Protection will treat the homicide as grounds to support targeted restrictions. He said business owners on the block have expressed support for additional measures and that the Chicago Police Department has committed to increased patrols, including a permanent presence on weekend hours. "This homicide should have never occurred and I send my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim," Knudsen added.

The four non-fatal shootings unfolded across different parts of the city. Around 11:20 p.m. Sunday — about 20 minutes before the Lincoln Park incident — a 27-year-old woman was driving in the 5700 block of South Morgan Street in Englewood when she heard gunfire and discovered she had been struck in the right hip. She drove herself to St. Bernard Hospital and was listed in good condition. Area One detectives are investigating.

Shortly after midnight, around 12:30 a.m. Monday, a 22-year-old man was standing outside in the 11100 block of South Wentworth Avenue in Roseland when someone in a black sedan fired multiple shots. He was hit in the left hand and drove himself to Roseland Hospital, where he was reported in good condition. Area Two detectives are handling the case.

At approximately 3:05 a.m., a 20-year-old man in the 7900 block of South Luella Avenue in South Shore was struck by gunfire and made his way to South Shore Hospital in good condition. Area Two detectives are also investigating that incident.

Less than an hour later, at around 3:43 a.m., a 34-year-old man was shot in the left ankle while standing outside in the 500 block of West 104th Street in Fernwood. He was taken to Christ Hospital in good condition. Area Two detectives are investigating.
