A McDonald's worker in Lodi, California shot a female colleague Monday before firing on police, who killed him. The injured woman is in stable condition.
McDonald's Shooting in Lodi Leaves Employee Dead, Co-Worker Hospitalized
A McDonald's employee opened fire on a female co-worker inside a restaurant in Lodi, California, on Monday morning before being shot and killed by responding police officers, NY Post Metro reports.
Jonhatan Anguiano, 29, entered the San Joaquin County location at approximately 9:30 a.m. carrying a semi-automatic pistol. He fired multiple shots, wounding a woman who worked alongside him. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, investigators said.
Surveillance footage released by the Lodi Police Department shows Anguiano dressed in an employee uniform, a long black sleeve covering his right arm, in the moments before officers fatally shot him. When officers arrived and closed in on the suspect, Anguiano opened fire on one of them, forcing police to shoot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The injured co-worker was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.
"The suspect was ultimately pronounced deceased on scene," the Lodi Police Department confirmed in a statement.
At least one bystander witnessed the incident from the drive-thru lane. "I was in the drive-thru at the cashier window when the shots were fired. I heard 4 shots being fired inside. Scary times," said Cheryl Marie Steneck.
Lodi City Councilmember Cameron Bregman, who lives one block from the restaurant, described the shooting as unacceptable and alarming for the community. "Lodi is a very small town, and so there's about four or five stories already circling," Bregman told KCRA. "The best thing I can do is let the police do the work and let the police release the reports."
The San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office is heading a multi-agency investigation into the incident.
