Memphis School Worker Charged After Pen Attack on Late Delivery Driver

A 36-year-old employee at a Memphis middle school has been charged with aggravated assault after stabbing a delivery driver multiple times with a pen, Law & Crime reports, citing a complaint affidavit filed with the court.

Braxton Stewart was working at American Way Middle School in the Parkway Village neighborhood of southeast Memphis on Thursday morning when a delivery driver arrived behind schedule. The driver told police he had been running late, and when he reached the school, a confrontation with Stewart quickly escalated into a physical fight.

Stewart allegedly pushed the driver in the chest before the two men began fighting. According to the affidavit obtained by Law & Crime, the driver stated he was "stabbed with a pen multiple times by Stewart" during the altercation.

Memphis Police Department officers responded to the school at approximately 9:25 a.m. and found both men still on the premises. Officers documented six puncture wounds on the victim: four on his back, one between his eyes, and one to the left side of his neck. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital. The court document does not address his condition following treatment.

Stewart was taken into custody at the scene. He was booked into the Shelby County Jail on a $25,000 bond and, according to jail records, was released on Friday. His arraignment took place on Monday, with his next court date set for August 28.
